- I know Moses was in Lincoln County Kentucky by the year 1812 as this is where he volunteered for war of 1812 service under Richard M Johnson. He was severely wounded in the war at the battle of Thames and was disabled from his injuries. Moses was shot at least twice, he was wounded by a musket ball which lodged in his backboneand remained there through out his life and he also recieved a buck shot to the arm.
After the war Moses married Nancy Ellis Wright, 21 Aug 1823 in Lincoln County Kentucky. Robert B Patton was surety; Robert Patton lived next door to Maurice Wright who was Nancy Ellis Wright's father.

Moses and Nancy had eight children while living in Lincoln County.
Moses received land in Johnson County Missouri for his war service. He sold his property in Lincoln County Kentucky and most of his household goods and then settled in Missouri in the year 1843. He remained there until his death 09 Aug 1859.
His wife received widows pension for Moses’ war service until her death 11 May 1888.
There were other Hodges in the area of Lincoln and Casey County Kentucky, I do not know how they fit with my Moses Hodges but they are all living along the Hanging Fork or Green River areas, so they must link in some way.
Moses Hodges 1791 SC isn’t listed as head of Household until 1830 so he must have been living with a parent or family.
These Hodges men tie to Lincoln and Casey County Kentucky starting as early as 1796. Abner, Amos married to Judith Gentry, Amasa, Moses Sr born before 1784, William, Welcome, and James.
It is interesting that another Moses Hodges born 1797 in Tennessee ends up in Lincoln county Kentucky by 1820, he is there 1820 and 1830, he moves to Casey County by 1840 and then onto Indiana by 1850. This Moses had his first two sons in Tennessee and his son Moses JR was born in Lincoln County Kentucky. Some researchers list the Moses Hodges born 1797 in Tennessee as the son of Ambrose Hodges?
I do not know the names of Moses’ parents but DNA evidence suggests he is of the Franklin County Virginia line and names in the Lincoln and Casey County Kentucky areas suggest he may be related to the Surry North Carolina Hodges. Now I need to link these men with my Moses.
Here are some records I found while searching Lincoln and Casey countie
1783- Common wealth of Virginia Land Warrant,
Moses Hodges 938 1/4 acres on Sturgeon Creek in Madison County Kentucky Land Warrant # 16744
1796- Daniel (David: see record below dated 1802) Hodges ase Moses Hodges by birth, Land surveyed 938 1/4 acres on Sturgeon Creek in Madison County Kentucky Warrant # 16744 Surveyed by Daniel Boone
1802- William Nash as attorney for David Hodges assignee of Moses Hodges, selling 938 1/4 acres on Sturgeon Creek in Madison County Kentucky to Joseph Bailey of Lincoln County Kentucky. Document states that the surveyed in 1796 inscribed Daniel Hodges on survey when it should have been David Hodges. (This document was filed in Lincoln County Kentucky)
The above lawyer William Nash, I believe to be the son of Marvel Nash b: 1740 in Goochland Co., Vir. And Agnes Hodges b: 1741 in Of, Goochland Co., Vir.
. Some list Agnes Hodges as the daughter of Edmund Hodges and Nephany Walker. Edmund Hodges and Nephany also had other children settled in the area of Lincoln county Kentucky at this time.
1783-Jessie Hodges 300 acres in Lincoln County Kentucky

Moses Hodges was born 1791 in the state of South Carolina. His parents are yet unknown to me at this time, but there is a grouping of men in the state of Kentucky, Lincoln County, where Moses lived in his young adulthood, one of these Hodges men could be the father of our Moses Hodges
Moses daughter Louisa Hodges Anderson stated in a Bio for her husband written in a book, Portrait and biographical record of Johnson and Pettis Counties, Missouri,: Chicago. Chapman Pub. Co. 1895, that her father was a captian in the war of 1812 through Georgia, but records have found that he served through Kentucky, not Georgia and he was a private.
Not disappointed at all after finding Moses was a private not a captain in the war of 1812 after finding Moses was in the battle of Thames and was wounded, not expected to live the night. Below is a brief military history for Moses. A full account can be viewed in the War of 1812 section of this book.
Moses Hodges enlisted in Captain James Davidson Company, JOHNSON'S REG'T MOUNTED KENTUCKY VOLS.
Moses’ wife, Nancy Ellis, filed a widows pension after the death of Moses Hodges for his war of 1812 service.
Pension #29562

In Lincoln county there is the Whitley house still standing, it was built by William Whitley in 1788, this family can be seen on page 47 on the 1840 census book and Moses that year was on page 56
Moses was Born in South Carolina, A history book (Portrait and biographical record of Johnson and Pettis Counties, Missouri, Portrait and biographical record of Johnson and Pettis Counties, Missouri: Chicago. Chapman Pub. Co. 1895.) states Moses Hodges was a captain In the war of 1812 through Georgia, he returned to Georgia after the war and migrated to Kentucky shortly after. Here he met and married Nancy Ellis Wright. (but the Georgia connection is not known at this time, we do not know why his daughter Louisa believed he was located in Georgia at this time)
The first we see of Moses in Lincoln County Kentucky is in the tax list for 1811, moses would have been 21 at the time when he first appeears in the tax list with another Moses Hodges, I believe the older Moses who first appears on the 1807 tax list along with Abner and Amos.
The next we see of Moses in Lincoln County Kentucky aside from his war of 1812 service mentioned above is for his marriage record to Nancy Ellis Wright, daughter of Maurice Wright and Mary Lawless Wright on August 21, 1823. We see him next in the 1830 census and again in the 1840 census of Lincoln County, he lived in Lincoln County Kentucky until 1843 then he moved with his family to Johnson County Missouri, Madison Township in Rose Hill until his death August 9, 1859.
In Johnson County Missouri we find the Hodges Family Cemetery located off of Highway 2.
At one time Moses owned the land that the Hodges cemetery is located on. I know from viewing the property in June 2005, that the property where Moses' house would have stood is now all cornfield, the cemetery would have been a distance from the house, and it is located under a large old Locust tree, which may have been there at the time Moses and Nancy lived, though now there are many locust trees and vines there, the center one stands like an old sentinel with the gravestones all lying beneath it.
