Terry laid out the basics of the science of genetic genealogy: the Y-chromosome, mitochondrial DNA, markers, mutations, and haplogroups. Ron provided the latest information on the Hodges-Hodge DNA project. At the time of the conference 77 kits had been analyzed and nine lineages identified. Ron outlined what is known about each lineage and issues to be resolved.
Nelson outlined evidence that links many Hodges to Kent, England and ultimately to the Frisians on the north coast of Europe back 18 centuries.
"Virginia" Bob gave a comprehensive overview of the Hodges in Virginia in the 17th and 18th century and tied some of them into our identified DNA lineages. This was especially interesting to the many at the conference whose Hodge and Hodges roots go back to colonial Virginia.
"New Jersey" Bob provided a wealth of information on sources of land records and the surprising variety of genealogical data which they contain.
"New Jersey" Bob gave an entertaining talk during lunch on the "Joys of Genealogy" that included cemetery stories.
